Meet the Fall 2025 Interns

Allison Bravo
School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers University
My name is Allison, and I'm a Biological Sciences Major. I'm currently involved in two organizations on campus, serving as Secretary for the Rutgers Commuter Student Association and as Events Coordinator for the Peruvian American Student Association. I also currently work at the Rutgers Cinema, so if anyone ever needs popcorn, I'm your gal!
I joined the OCA Internship to gain experience in ecological and climate research. I look forward to collecting data that will help preserve the beautiful landscapes that make up the Garden State.
My favorite sustainability tip is to use leftover water from boiling food to water plants - or to feed your pets (my dog loves vegetable broth!).
A fun fact about me is that I collect rubber duckies from claw machines, and I've compiled over 100 of them!

Kaito Burkheimer
School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers University
My name is Kaito Burkheimer, and I am a senior at Rutgers studying Environmental Policy, Institutions, and Behavior. On campus, I am a member of the SEBS Governing Council, having served on the e-board last year and on the university senate this year. I am also the recording secretary for the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI), which allows our organization to have strong ties with philanthropic organizations like the Rutgers Dance Marathon.
I joined the OCA internship because I enjoy research, and although I have not done much fieldwork in a while, it is a skill set I do not intend to lose. Having been born and raised in Washington state, I understand the importance of old-growth trees and adamantly believe their survival is of paramount importance for long-term sustainability.
My favorite way to be more sustainable is by going to farmers' markets, where you can find good quality, locally-made products while meeting lovely people—a win-win in my books!
A fun fact about me is that I have just begun training for a triathlon as the newest step in my fitness journey.

Macey Hockenbury
School of Environmental & Biological Sciences, Rutgers University
My name is Macey Hockenbury and I am an Environmental and Business Economics major. I am a proud member of Rutgers Women in Business, and have also been involved in Rutgers Radio and The Rutgers Seeing Eye Puppy Raising Club.
I joined the OCA Internship because I have a strong passion for creating a more sustainable future. I hope to gain hands-on experience and learn more about the different sustainable solutions that can be used to combat climate change.
My favorite sustainability tip is to compost your food scraps and use them in your garden.
A fun fact about me is that I am training for a 5k in November!

Aleena Khan
School of Environmental & Biological Sciences, Rutgers University
My name is Aleena Khan and I’m an Environmental Science Major with a Microbiology Minor. Off-campus I am heavily involved with YM (Young Muslims) leadership, a national youth-led group focused on community service and on campus I participate in MSA. I am also a part of NRNJ, a nature journaling group and I volunteer at my hometown library.
I joined the OCA internship this year because I wanted to learn more about what opportunities exist in the environmental sector. Through this internship I hope to gain first-hand experience in the field and develop practical skills to prepare me for work in research.
My favorite sustainability hack is bringing my own reusable cup to cafes. It’s cuter and some cafes even offer a discount for this.
One fun fact about me is I have a pet bunny!

Zulal Ozgur
School of Engineering, Rutgers University
I’m Zulal and I’m a Civil Engineering major. I love music and I participate in it by playing drums for the Rutgers marching band. I also stay involved on campus by tutoring for the school of engineering.
I joined the OCA internship because I’m tired of talking about climate change while doing nothing about it. I hope to learn more in-depth about the scientific processes that keep the earth healthy.
My favorite sustainability tips that I use are meal prepping to avoid food waste and purchasing secondhand items and clothing.
Fun fact about me: I really like working with my hands and I do things like woodworking, pottery, drawing, and bracelet making!

Sreya Rajeesh
School of Pharmacy, Rutgers University
My name is Sreya Rajeesh, and I am a sophomore majoring in pharmacy. On campus, I am involved in several organizations within the pharmacy school, and outside of school, I enjoy volunteering as an EMT.
I joined the OCA Internship because I believe sustainability and human health are deeply intertwined, and I hope to build on my background in environmental science while exploring how sustainable practices can be integrated into healthcare and everyday life. I look forward to working on projects that will make a meaningful and lasting impact on the campus community.
My favorite sustainability tip is to repurpose candle jars or glass containers as vases, organizers, or storage.
A fun fact about me is that I made pickles this summer!
