A Carbon Neutral Rutgers by
2024

Neutral by 2040 → Negative by 2041

Rutgers has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2040 and carbon-negative -- removing more greenhouse gases than we are putting into the atmosphere -- no later than the university's 275th anniversary in 2041. Monitoring and reporting Rutgers’ energy use is a key step in ensuring that we are on track to meeting this goal.

Growing and Learning

Each information set is categorized by its corresponding Climate Action Group, with a rollout of an additional dashboards every few months. A general overview dashboard is also planned for the future.

Energy & Buildings
The Energy and Buildings Climate Action Group will measure and reduce emissions associated with existing buildings and facilities, and work to produce and procure renewable energy to run the Rutgers campuses.
Procurement & Waste
The Procurement and Waste Management Climate Action Group will measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions associated with non-food supply chain, procurement, and waste.
Food Systems
The Dining Services and Food Vendors Climate Action Group will measure and reduce all food and drink-related scope 3 emissions associated with procurement and waste.
