SUMMARY:CLIMATE BRIDGE: Perspectives for International Collaboration on Climate Change in the Current Political Climate
DESCRIPTION:Panel Discussion and Book Presentation\, Reception to Follow \nSince the 2021 German-US conference CLIMATE BRIDGE\, the political leadership of both countries changed. How do the new governments impact climate politics? How do politics affect scientific and professional cooperation between Germany and the U.S.? \nClimate change is creating new challenges for spatial and environmental planning on both sides of the Atlantic. Planning and policy must balance moderating climate change impact from rising temperatures\, extreme precipitation\, and sea level rise with social equity and environmental justice. Climate Bridge compares New Jersey and the German Ruhr region to build an international perspective on how to enact climate action at the government-public interface. \nJoin us for a panel discussion and book presentation to learn more. This event is free of cost and open to the public. \n

Rutgers University’s proximity to mass transit provides this opportunity. While there is limited Amtrak direct service to New Brunswick via Amtrak’s Northeast Regional and Keystone Service lines during NECSC\, you may find it easier and faster to take Amtrak to a nearby station and switch to NJ Transit. \nNew Brunswick Station is about a 10-minute (0.5 mi) walk from the Honors College and a 5-minute (0.2 mi) walk from the Hyatt. \nFrom New England and Points North: \nOption One: For any Amtrak train that stops at New York Penn Station\, transfer is available to NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line which stops directly in New Brunswick and runs frequently. Tickets can be purchased in advance using the NJTransit App. \nOption Two: For anyone who would specifically take Amtrak’s Northeast Regional\, another option is to stop in Metropark\, NJ and then transfer to NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line there. The advantage being this is a much smaller station than New York Penn with an easier transfer. \nFrom Philadelphia\, Harrisburg\, and Points South: \nFor any Amtrak train that stops in Trenton or Princeton Junction\, which looks to be many of them\, transfer is available at both locations to NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor line which stops in New Brunswick and runs frequently. Tickets can be purchased in advance using the NJTransit App. \nIf you're originating in the Philadelphia area\, you can also take SEPTA's Trenton Line and transfer to the Northeast Corridor that way. \nFlights \nNewark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is the closest airport to New Brunswick\, NJ. From your arrival terminal\, you can take the Newark Airport Airtrain to the Newark Airport Train Station. New Jersey Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line runs frequently and stops at both the airport and New Brunswick. \nParking \nPlease use this link to register for visitor parking. When registering\, click “Visitor” then enter your email and vehicle information to complete registration. The parking deck is about a 10-minute (0.4 mi) walk from the Honors College. \nRutgers University permit holders should only park in their designated lots. \n ▸Swag SwapWe will be holding a swag swap! If you would like to participate\, bring about $35 worth of your office’s branded merchandise. You could also bring clean\, used school swag you might have collected at Move Out. \n We are excited about the schedule that is coming together and are excited to see you there! If the cost poses any barriers to your attendance\, or if you have any questions\, please feel free to reach out to climateaction@rutgers.edu.About NECSC\nThe Northeast Campus Sustainability Consortium (NECSC) was established in October 2004 to support sustainability officers in advancing education about and demonstration of sustainable systems on university campuses in the northeast and maritime region. Organized around the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development\, the NECSC members have committed to an annual meeting that advances campus sustainability by providing close networking opportunities\, professional development\, and access to the area’s vibrant and growing college and university sustainability practitioner community. With no formalized structure\, the NECSC is a collaborative\, participatory network serving sustainability professionals in higher education in the northeast region. \nTo be added to the NECSC Google group\, please contact sustainabilityoffice@tufts.edu. \nThe Google group is to be used for idea-sharing and collaboration\, facilitating calls about a particular topic\, planning efforts associated with the annual meeting\, and reminders of upcoming activities. This informal Consortium supports sustainability representatives from across all higher education institutions primarily in northeastern North America. To foster open dialogue we limit listserv access to higher education representatives only.
